A New Tennis Tournament in Westchester

March 19, 2012 02:07 PM
Yonkers Tennis Center hosted a USTA sanctioned 10 and Under Level 2 Green Ball Tournament on March 10th, and it was a huge success. 22 kids from all over the Eastern section competed in the tournament, which was one of the first of its kind in Lower Westchester, and one of the first in the Eastern section!
Yonkers Tennis Center has held many 10 and Under Level 3 Orange Ball Tournaments in the past, and this tournament served as the next step for junior players along the tournament pathway.
For this competition, sectional points were at stake, and each child played their best throughout round robin singles matches. They were between 7 and 10 years of age with varying levels of play.
In the end, Yonkers Tennis Center’s very own Aidan Gemme (age 9) took home the trophy after his final match against Donovan Brown (9).
Yonkers Tennis Center’s Director of 10 and Under Tennis and Tournament Director, Claudio Armandi, was instrumental in putting the tournament together.
"It was an exciting night for Yonkers Tennis Center. The turnout was great and the excitement was contagious. We’re proud to be one of the first in the Eastern section to host such a tournament," says Armandi. "And we’re proud that one of our own players took home the trophy!"
Yonkers Tennis Center hosts 10 and Under tournaments and play days on a monthly basis. For more information, visit
