Harrison Tennis Team Crowned Champions at USTA League Nationals

A mixed doubles tennis team from Harrison, N.Y., representing the USTA Eastern Section, captured the national title at the USTA League Mixed 18 & Over 10.0 National Championships held at the Hilton El Conquistador Resort in Tucson, Ariz.

The Harrison team defeated a team from Atlanta, Ga., 2-1 in the Championship match. Earlier in the day, the Harrison team defeated a team from Washington, D.C., 2-1 in the semifinals. They advanced this far by winning their round-robin flight contested Friday and Saturday.

The team, which plays at Rye Racquet Club, is captained by Clinton Beaumont deVries and Harry Walsh, and features Chiara Ann Ciabatti, Jessyca Arthur-Cameselle, Jacques Dutoit and Klara Miklikova-Obiaya.

Team members Harry Walsh and Klara Miklikova-Obiaya are both teaching professionals at Rye Racquet Club.

The top four teams in order of finish are: Eastern, Southern, Missouri Valley, Mid-Atlantic.

Established in 1980, USTA League has grown from 13,000 participants in a few parts of the country in its first year, to over 820,000 players across the nation today, making it the world’s largest recreational tennis league.
